The Province of Ontario set a new single day record for daily cases today, however today's number is inflated because of changes to how Public Health Ontario extracts and analyzes COVID-19 case data.
ONTARIO - The Province of Ontario has confirmed 2,275 new cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the total number of cases in the Province to 144,396.
The Province has made changes to how Public Health Ontario extracts and analyzes COVID-19 case data that has caused a spike in todays numbers. Public Health Ontario updated their data extraction time to 1 p.m. (from 10:30 a.m.) for health units using CCM resulting in a one-time increase in case counts.
The Province also confirmed 20 new COVID-19 related deaths today and the total number of deaths now sits at 3,992. Meanwhile another 1,810 people have made a full recovery, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 123,373.
The province completed just over 39,000 tests yesterday. We currently have 921 COVID-19 patients in the hospital with 249 in the ICU and 156 COVID-19 patients on a ventilator. Most of the new cases are coming from area hotspots with 711 new cases in Toronto, 586 in Peel, 185 in Windsor-Essex County and 154 in York Region.
