The Ontario government is investing $100 million to provide grants to businesses in the tourism sector.
Ontario's tourism sector is getting some help from the province.
Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture, announced a $100 million investment to help tourism businesses recover from the pandemic.
"The last 18-months of the pandemic have been the most challenging Ontario’s tourism industry has ever faced. Previously an economic powerhouse for the province, tourism has been hit by the triple threat that COVID-19 represents - a health, economic and social crisis," said Minister MacLeod. "This critical funding will help support regionally significant businesses, while protecting jobs in communities that rely on the tourism industry."
Businesses in the leisure travel, accommodation and attraction sectors that have lost at least 50 percent in revenue in 2020-21 can apply for funding through the Ontario Tourism Recovery Program.
Successful applicants will receive funds that will help them cover expenses such as salaries, marketing, maintenance and costs associated with re-opening, operating and health and safety measures.
Applications for the program will open on October 13th.
