WOODSTOCK - Everyone in Woodstock is welcome to a couple of free pizza's on Christmas Day.
The event is being put on by Naseeb Singh, Mr. Tony, the owner of the local Pizza Pizza and the entire Woodstock Punjabi community. Singh explains why they wanted to do this.
"This is our way to get involved with the mainstream and say thank you for letting us be part of the community. We will be giving away free pizza on Christmas Day, two free medium pizzas for every family. I just want to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone here in Woodstock and please be safe and strong."
Singh says that even though they don't celebrate Christmas, they do respect every religion.
"Even though we don't celebrate Christmas, we do believe in Jesus, we all believe in all religions and we all respect all religions. In Punjabi, to give away from free food, we call a langar and we have 10 guru's and on of our first guru's Nanak Dev started this langar with 20 rupees, I would say 600 plus years ago. So we are following his footsteps to help needy people to provide food. We also want to be part of the mainstream community, even though we don't celebrate but if you come to my home, you will see a lot of the decorations, santa's and everything. It is just a day we want to be part of, so once again Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone."
Everyone can get a free medium cheese and pepperoni pizza on Christmas Day from 1-4pm at the Pizza Pizza on Dundas Street. They will not have phone orders, it will be walk in only. Social distancing measures will be in place, please wear a mask and make sure to follow all of the COVID-19 guidelines.
