The second annual Winter Walk for Warmth is happening later this month at the Trillium Woods Trail. South-West Oxford and The Sweaburg Lions Club have teamed up to raise awareness about homelessness.
SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - The Township of South-West Oxford is teaming up with The Sweaburg Lions Club for the Winter Walk for Warmth.
The fundraiser was organized to help support and raise awareness of those facing homelessness in our community.
David Mayberry, Mayor for the Township of South-West Oxford says this is the second year it’s going on.
"We’re asking people to come out and take a stroll. The idea is to remind people that there are members in our community that are struggling and face the challenges of living outside all-year-round. We are also encouraging people to bring food and cash donations if they would like."
He says the walk will take approximately 20 minutes.
"Despite it being the coldest time of the year i think a good time with good people, friends and neighbours always warms the heart and probably the soul."
The walk will be held at Trillium Woods trail Trillium Line between Curry Road and Sweaburg Road.
Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided after the walk on behalf of committee members and the Sweaburg Lions Club.
Information will also be provided at the event on where people can get help with clothing, shelter, gifts, meals, financial support and pets in Oxford County.
The walk runs on February 22 from 2:00 pm - 6:00pm.
