Local realtors will be picking up donations in the communities of Woodstock, Ingersoll, Sweaburg, Embro, Beachville, and Tillsonburg on Wednesday May 3rd. All of the proceeds will benefit Salvation Army food banks.
OXFORD COUNTY - You might find a yellow door hanger on your front door over the next couple of days.
Members of the Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Area Association of Realtors will be going door-to-door this week, dropping door hangers off in their pickup locations for the Realtors Care Food Drive.
The pickup areas include Woodstock, Ingersoll, Sweaburg, Embro, Beachville, and Tillsonburg. This will be the first year Tillsonburg is included in the annual food drive.
Tammy Betzner is an Ingersoll-based realtor from Century 21 Heritage House. She says it's going to be a busy couple of weeks for all of their food drive volunteers.
"They are going door-to-door dropping off those door hangers and then they are going back next Wednesday again for the big route pickup. They are generously giving and showing the community they care, please if you could do that in kind we would love you out there!"
All you have to do is leave your donations in a box or bag on your doorstep on Wednesday May 3rd and volunteers will stop by to pick them up sometime between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. that day. You can donate non-perishable food items, baby products, feminine hygiene products, and more.
Betzner says you should check the expiry dates before deciding which items to donate.
"When we drop it off at the Salvation Army locations that is the first thing they do, is check to see if they can put it on their shelves. Expired items go straight to the dumpster."
All of the donations will be going to local Salvation Army food banks in Oxford County. Betzner says the food bank in Ingersoll is able to feed 100 local families for up to four to five months thanks to this food drive.
Betzner stopped by the Heart FM studio on Tuesday April 25th to chat with Dan and Marcie. You can listen to the full interview below:
