The County of Oxford is teaming up with the Township of South-West Oxford for a six-month road safety study in Beachville.
BEACHVILLE - Oxford County and the Township of South-West Oxford are still looking at ways to curb speeding in Beachville.
Over the next six months, they will be doing more traffic studies along Beachville Road. At a minimum, Public Works will conduct three 7-day trials in each direction at different locations throughout the village. The study will try to see if the current speed transitions of 80 km/h to 50 km/h are effective. The findings of this study will be presented to Oxford County Council in July.
Director of Public Works David Simpson says they will continue to study traffic speeds along Beachville Roads and are considering a number of measures, pending council approval.
"Repositioning the gateway entrance signage into those communities, adding more vegetation and trees, adding physical lighting, looking at where we could extend the road curve or sidewalks."
Simpson says they are also looking at photo radar, which is something that will be brought to County Council later this year, with the possibility of installing it in 2022.
"There is a potential that council may consider the implementation of automated speed enforcement, so we will be bringing that back to council when the 2022 budget deliberations kick off."
Oxford County Public Works will other traffic calming measures to present to council was well, including additional built features to notify drivers of the upcoming speed changes through Beachville. They will also look at doing pedestrian studies to determine the potential need for controlled road crossings.
