Perth OPP reminds the public to be safe and responsible while driving this winter
Winter is coming to Oxford County.
Perth OPP want drivers out there to brace themselves for another year of snowy road conditions.
Constable Laura Brown says the snow can cause slippery roads and impair your visibility.
"One of the most important things to remind motorists of is to take the time to prepare themselves and their vehicles for safe winter driving because the leading cause of collisions that occur during the winter months is actually not poor driving conditions, it's poor driving.
Make sure you slow down, stay alert and maintain a safe following distance behind the vehicle in front of you.
If you spot a snow plow don't pass it. They are wider in the front than they appear and they will kick out, making it hard to see what's ahead.
Brown says it's a good idea to get your car checked out beforehand, and possibly put on some snow tires.
"We would recommend that you always make sure that your vehicle is mechanically ready for the winter and that includes seeing a licensed mechanic if you have any concerns about your vehicle if you every take it on the roadway in these conditions."
Brown also suggests preparing a winter safety kit for your vehicle. It should include an extra jug of wiper fluid, a snow scraper, a shovel, booster cables, a blanket, non perishable food items (ex: granola bars), bottles of water and a flashlight with extra batteries.
