7.9 acres of land was sold to B-G-I Retail to build a new industrial building. Woodstock City council approved the sale at last Thursday's meeting.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council has sold industrial land located on the east side of Woodall Way.
The 7.9 acres of city-owned land was sold to a BGI Retail at $135,000 per acre.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the lands will be used to construct a new industrial building.
"We know that right now there have not been tenants that are identified but when a company comes in and wants to build a building like this, we know they probably have some irons in the fire and there should be some new jobs coming to the Friendly City."
Woodstock City council approved the sale at last Thursday's meeting.
According to council's report, city staff have held discussions with representatives from BGI Retail who have had interest in purchasing the lands fronting Griffin Way. The company plans to build an industrial building, which will be 34,000 sqft / 3,156 m2 and contain several leasable units.
Mayor Birtch says this will benefit the community.
"So we'll continue to see more piles of dirt around in the Friendly City, so as they start and get their permits to do this construction. When you see that equipment you know that there's more jobs and more prosperity coming to help improve the quality of life for everyone in the Friendly City."
Council's report says the company has had a strong history of constructing multi-use industrial buildings in Brantford and is confident they'll be able to bring new industrial tenants to Woodstock.
He adds there is no timeline on when the new building will be built.
