Very soon kids will be free to go outside and play during their summer break. Motorists are reminded to be extra careful.
With the end of school fast approaching, you can expect to see plenty of kids running around Woodstock and Oxford County this summer.
Oxford OPP are reminding drivers to be extra cautious for the little ones and expect to see more youth during the day playing outside. Constable Lisa Naranscik offers up this advice.
"There will be an increased number of kids and bikes on the streets, so we just want to remind motorists to take extra care, drive with care, especially in areas where there may be parks and recreation areas. If you're coming upon any kids on bikes make sure you give them lots of space, you never know what the skill level of the cyclists may be, so just give lots of space and just basically slow down and keep an eye out for kids who might be playing near the street."
Naranscik adds if the kids plan on riding their bike, it is also important for them to know the rules of the road and always wear a helmet.
