A shoplifter put up quite the fight at the Woodstock WalMart Sunday afternoon. According to Woodstock Police, a Loss Prevention Officer attempted to make an arrest at the store around 1:15 pm after witnessing the male conceal a number of items. The suspect was taken into custody outside of the store when he assaulted the officer and fled on foot. A chase ensued as Woodstock Police arrived to the scene and also pursued the suspect by foot. The chase ended when the suspect was apprehended in the washroom of a nearby McDonalds. 31 year-old Wade Rank of Waterloo was remanded into custody and faces charges of Theft Under $5000, Breach of Probation, Escape Custody, Assault to Resist Arrest and Possession of Stolen Property under $5000. Rank will appear in Woodstock court Tuesday for a bail hearing. The Loss Prevention Officer was uninjured.
