The Fusion Youth Centre has postponed the big skate competition set for tomorrow because of rain in the forecast.
INGERSOLL - Mother Nature is really raining on our parade when it comes to the Seventh Annual Fusion Youth Skate Competition.
Program Coordinator Craig Boddy says the forecast didn't look good for tomorrow's scheduled competition, so they're moving the date. "So it will be Saturday October 3. Registration starts at 10 a.m. I believe, and the competition starts at 11 a.m. We're hoping to wrap up by 6 - 5 o'clock depending on how many riders we have. We have gotten a lot of interest from families outside of Oxford County."
Boddy says there's two options on how to register - it's $15 on the day of the event, or you can register early for a discount. "It is $10. And the money that we raise from the competition goes directly back into the skate park so for maintenance and new equipment and etc. You can come into the centre - if you drop in you can grab a registration form beforehand or just register the day of."
The competition offers all kinds of prizes according to Boddy, "We have scooter decks, we have helmets, we have a couple skateboard decks, we have bike grips, we have posters, we have a whole bunch or prizes. And since we have another two weeks, we're working on getting even more prizes. Any participant in the competition receives a free meal, so it's a hot dog and hamburger and a pop or water."
There are three categories: skateboards, bikes, scooters. There are also three different experience levels of competition.
Helmets are mandatory for this competition as well.
