Woodstock teens are being to asked to get off the couch this winter and do something positive for the community through the Snow Buddies program.
WOODSTOCK - Teenagers in Woodstock are being asked to put down their video game controllers for Fortnite and pick up a shovel.
Emma Vondervoort, the Supervisor for Recreational Programs, says it's a great opportunity for youth to get their volunteer hours or to possibly even get paid.
"You get paired with a neighbour in your neighbourhood, who is elderly or needs some assistance shoveling snow."
Vondervoort adds it also turns teens into active citizens.
"I think it's a great way for them to help out in the winter and form relationships in the community. It's also a great generational project as well; it's nice to get to know new people in their community."
Training will begin this fall; teaching kids how to properly shovel and some safety tips while out in the community.
It costs $10 for youth to register and you can do so online here.
