Southwestern Public Health confirmed 30 new cases of the virus this morning and 16 recoveries. Another outbreak has also been declared at the Bethany Long Term Care Home in Norwich Township.
OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health confirmed 30 new cases of the virus this morning and 16 recoveries.
We currently have 108 active cases with most of them in Woodstock, Norwich Township, Aylmer and St. Thomas. Here is the breakdown of the locations according to Southwestern Public Health:
Woodstock - 14
Norwich Township - 13
Tillsonburg - 8
Ingersoll - 4
Blandford-Blenheim - 4
Zorra Township - 4
East Zorra-Tavistock - 4
St. Thomas - 26
Aylmer - 18
Bayham - 10
Central Elgin - 1
Southwold - 1
West Elgin - 1
To date we have had 12 institutional outbreaks at Long Term Care Homes. We currently have 3 active outbreaks in the region is at the Terrace Lodge in Aylmer and Bethany Long Term Care Home in Norwich Township. In both cases a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. We currently have 3 people in the hospital with the virus including 2 in the ICU.
The number one symptom that has led to a positive test in the region is a cough, followed by a fever. Other symptoms that have resulted in positive tests include fatigue, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion just to name a few. 17% of people who have tested positive in our region were asymptomatic.
