Southwestern Public Health Now Vaccinating Adults 55 and Over

Over 60,000 residents in the Southwestern Public Health region have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and adults over the age of 55 can now book an appointment to get vaccinated at one of the mass immunization clinics.

OXFORD COUNTY - Over 1/4 of the population in Southwestern Public Health Region has been given at least one dose of the vaccine.

Over 60,000 residents have been given one dose. Nine people are currently in the hospital with the virus, including two in the ICU. These are the highest numbers they have been on record.

Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they are urging residents to remain cautious as the variants of concern continue to raise alarm bells locally.

"We are asking everyone to continue to follow public health measures, your actions are making a difference in our community and I hope we continue to see a downward trend in our case numbers in the coming weeks."

Starting today, SWPH is booking adults over the age of 55. Dr. Lock is encouraging everyone to get the vaccine.

"I strongly encourage anyone who is eligible now for a COVID-19 vaccine to get it. We still have lot's of appointments available at our clinics in Woodstock, Tillsonburg and St. Thomas for the month of May."

You can find more information on how to book your COVID-19 vaccine appointment online here.
