Members of Woodstock Police to run with Special Olympics Torch this morning.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is proud to support local Special Olympians once again.
The Special Olympics Torch Run is happening on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The group will be running from the Woodstock Police Station on Dundas Street, those walking can join the group when they pass by the HeartFM studios.
Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Deb Klemp with the Woodstock Police Services.
"So we will have a police lead with the lights on, if you see us, come out along the route and cheer, honk your horn, we have some big trucks that blow their horns at time, and the athletes love that and then well all meet at Boston Pizza for a photo opportunity, and they treat all of the athletes, parents and support staff and officers to pizza and pop."
Athletes have been getting sponsors, but donations can be made even if you can not participate by contacting the Woodstock and District Developmental Services.
Klemp says the relationship with Special Olympics is a long standing one that means a lot.
"The relationship is very important for Woodstock Police as it is to all of the police forces across the province, we have a great fellowship with theses athletes, they kind of become part of your family, because we spend a lot of time with them and support them a great deal. Just to be in their presence is incredible because they are so positive."
Be sure to watch for the group travelling east bound down on Dundas to Wilson and then all the way to Boston Pizza, where they will gather for refreshments.
There may be a slight delay in traffic as the athletes make their way through. The Woodstock Police Service and the Auxiliary officers thank the public in advance for their patience while they continue this important tradition in recognizing these athletes.
To donate to the run, contact the Woodstock and District Developmental Services here.
