Stolen Vehicles

Pair charged following a high speed chase involving a spike belt and canine unit

SOUTHWEST OXFORD - With the help of both a spike belt and the Canine Unit, OPP have made a pair of arrests following a high speed chase through several municipalities. 

It all started shortly after 1 Thursday morning when an Oxford OPP officer noticed a pickup truck towing a trailer on Ostrander Road speeding. 
 
When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the truck picked up speed eventually entering Brant County.
 
Officers eventually had to use a spike belt which deflated the tires on the suspect vehicle causing the suspects to run in the Cockshutt and Sour Springs Road area of Brant County. 
 
The area was contained by OPP and with the assistance of OPP Canine Unit, and both suspects were arrested a short time later. Through investigation it was discovered that the Dodge Ram pickup truck was stolen from Elmira, the towed trailer which contained a Harley Davidson motorcycle was stolen from St. Thomas. 
 
Charged with the following is Jeffrey MARTIN, 34 years old from Oshweken and Charles LAFORME, 27 years from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nations:
 
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000 (3 Counts) 
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000 
Theft Over $5,000 
Theft of a Motor Vehicle -Over $5,000
                                                           
They are both being held for a bail hearing.
