Students can head to Community Employment Services to get help finding a job this summer.
WOODSTOCK - Community Employment Services is open to help students look for a job over the summer.
The local employment centre helps with resume building, job search coaching and assistance and more.
Student Coordinator Georgina Culley says they offer many different programs and services.
"Some of the services that we provide to students of Oxford County are job search coaching and assistance, interview preparation and practice, resume building, cover letter writing and skill identifications. And we are constantly updating our job posting in our office to help students look for new opportunities that suit their needs and the youth in our community."
The CES is catered to students in either high school or university.
She says the biggest obstacle preventing students from finding work is not having a resume.
"Sometimes they don't really know where to start and that resume building is the very first step, and we can a resume out of anything even if you don't have any pre-paid work experience. You'll be supervised at the chores that you do for your parents or helping your neighbours out, or the babysitting you've been doing will also look really good on your resume."
Culley says they also provide a pre-employment training program called Youth Job Connection Summer. The program will pay students ages 15 to 18 years-old for attending workshops and also receive help finding a placement at the end of completing 20 hours.
She says there a lot of employers looking to hire students over the summer, including golf courses and home owners.
"And usually too we have employers who will reach out to employer services or even the student centre directly looking for students specifically because they only want to hire them for the short period of the summer. Especially in landscaping or golf courses, they need students too to help maintain their course. And also we have some private citizens in town who will reach out because they have odd jobs around their house and those are great for getting that little bit of experience that students might lack."
Community Employment Services is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
They are also open later on Wednesday, going from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and they'll be open on Saturday mornings running from the end of May to June for students who are unable to come during the week because they're in school.
