SWPH will pause its COVID-19 dashboard tomorrow, in hopes of relaunching an updated dashboard this fall with information on other respiratory illnesses in Oxford, Elgin, and Middlesex.
SWPH - Southwestern Public Health is about to pause the COVID-19 dashboard on its website.
It launched back in 2020 and it contains up-to-date information on the current case numbers in Oxford, Elgin, and Middlesex. Carolyn Richards, the Program Manager for the Foundational Standards for the Planning and Epidemiology Team, says more than 190,000 unique visitors have visited the dashboard annually.
“What began as a method to compile and report case data became an important tool for local residents to assess COVID-19 risks. A key function of public health is to report local health data – and that data needs to be reliable and relevant. We revised our reporting several times during the pandemic to adapt to changing data sources. We now have fewer data sources available, so a pause is needed."
Starting tomorrow, the health unit will no longer update the online resource, in hopes of relaunching it in the fall. The new and improved dashboard will focus on COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses including influenza.
During the pause, those looking for information regarding COVID-19 and influenza case numbers will be able to visit the Public Health Ontario website.
