The Environment Assessment from Walker Environmental on the proposed landfill in Zorra Township should be ready by June.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Walker Environment Group plans to have their Environmental Assessment proposed draft done by June.
They recently came to Zorra Township council for an update on their process for the proposed landfill. Mayor Marcus Ryan says the EA assessment will then be put out for a public review.
"So that will be Walker's proposed draft that will then be put out for a period of public input on it. Certainly that will include the joint municipal coordinating committee's peer review team would be reviewing it at that point and then when all that is done, it will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and they will review it at that point."
Walker Environment provides an update to Zorra Township on the proposed South West Landfill a couple of times every year to keep them updated on the process. Ryan says we are still a ways away from getting a resolution.
"We are at the very least months away but frankly it will largely depend on what the details are in Walker's draft submission and how well all the people who review it, including the peer review team think, that the questions that are being asked are answered and then even when that stage is done, it will depend on how the Ministry of Environment feels, that the questions are asked and answered. It is a little bit hard to tell because frankly, the science isn't done yet and we should all be waiting to read those reports and see what they say, depending what they say, is going to dictate in some respect as to how long it is going to take."
Walker Environmental is looking to build what has been dubbed a mega landfill or mega dump by opponents in Zorra Township. It is vehemently opposed by several residents in Ingersoll and Zorra Township.
