Award Winning singer Denise Pelley will be performing the Sweet Sounds of Soul at the Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts next Friday.
INGERSOLL - The Sweet Sounds of Soul is coming to the Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts.
One of the area's best known and most accomplished voices Denise Pelley will be performing in the latest show in the Fundraiser the Roof series. Pelley says the concert will be uplifting and fun.
“I define Soul Music as music that fills the soul with goodness, smiles, and memories. We've picked some of our favourite songs that are meaningful.”
Pelley says she will be joined by Marque Smith, who will be playing piano and contributing a couple of songs to the performance.
“We'll be doing songs that people will recognize and love from Burt Bacharach, Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, and many others.”
Pelley has opened for Aretha Franklin at the John Labatt Centre in London, performed with acclaimed trombonist Ray Anderson, Gospel/Blues legend Jackie Richardson and Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook. She has been honoured by receiving the
Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals, and named a YM-YWCA Woman of Distinction in the Arts and Heritage category. She has been awarded Best Jazz Artist in London at Ontario’s Music Awards 6 times, and Jazz Artist of the Year at the Jack Richardson Awards.
In April of 2015 Denise was inducted into the London Music Hall of Fame. The London Black History Committee recognized her accomplishments, contributions, and support to her community in 2009, and Pelley has received a honourary licentiate diploma from Conservatory Canada.
Denise Pelley and Marque Smith will be performing The Sweet Sounds of Soul Friday, May 10th.
Doors open at 6:30pm, show time at 7:30pm. Reserved seats are $30, and available at www.itopa.ca or 519-485-3070.
A stair lift and hearing assist system are available to ITOPA patrons. The concert is part of a series of shows the IOTPA is doing as they try to raise $25,000 to fix their roof.
