A local Navy Cadets drill team has placed first at the provincial championships in Kingston.
WOODSTOCK - A local Navy Cadets drill team had a very impressive run at the provincial championships in Kingston.
NLCC Unicorn and their drill caption placed first this weekend, after competing against 33 other cadet corps from across Ontario.
Lieutenant Amanda Hie says their drills have to be very precise and they require a lot of discipline.
"It's the same type of drills you would do on a parade square for military, so it's the same type but these are 9 to 12 year old kids doing it."
The drill captain alone has to memorize 90 commands and know when and how to give them.
Hie says they're now getting ready for the Battle of the Atlantic Parade on May 6th.
"The whole corp is involved in that. That is where we go and remember the ships that were lost during World War 2 with the Navy Vets, they are big contributors with us and we help them out as much as we can."
They also have their annual review coming up at the end of May.
