OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk has collected thousands of letters for 11 year old Sarah, who is battling cancer for a 5th time in her young life and will be hand delivering them tomorrow with his family.
NORFOLK COUNTY - A couple of weeks ago the OPP and Constable Ed Sanchuk put out a call for birthday cards for an 11 year old girl is fighting cancer for the 5th time in her young life.
Sanchuk put the call out on social media and promised to hand deliver the cards to Sarah, who lives near Alliston. Sarah is turning 12 on Friday and all she wanted for her birthday was cards. Today Sanchuk is proud to say he will be able to deliver on that promise.
"We got a couple thousand cards, along with gifts collected, I'm just so proud of the generosity and the spirit of giving and not just Norfolk County, but all around the West region, Ontario, Canada and the world. I got calls from Germany, Italy, Ireland, we got gifts from all over the globe, one just arrived this morning from British Columbia. I just wanted to thank everyone who time out of their day to put a smile on this little girls face. On behalf of the OPP organization, I just want to thank you. I'm a dad myself and I can't imagine what the family is going through, let alone Sarah but she is a warrior and it's my hope that she gets well soon. On behalf of the OPP I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea what this means."
Sanchuk will be hand delivering all of the cards and presents tomorrow morning in Alliston and he is taking his whole family with him.
"It is a good opportunity to try and spread some joy and put a smile on her face, because I can tell you, she is going to be opening these way past Christmas and maybe into the New Year, that's how many cards we have here."
Sanchuk will be posting another video on the weekend after he meets with Sarah and her family for her 12th birthday this Friday.
