There are 12 people are vying for 6 council seats on Tillsonburg Town Council.
TILLSONBURG - A familiar face is tossing her hat into the ring once again for a seat on Tillsonburg Town Council.
Penny Esseltine was first elected to Town Council in 2014. She has lived and worked in the town for 25 years and has volunteered on the board of the Tillonsburg Horticulture Society and the Oxford County Library Board.
Esseltine explains why she is seeking a second term.
"My first term as a councillor I learned a lot about how municipalities work and operate. I learned about accessibility, transit, winter maintenance, development, roads, sidewalks and a whole lot of things that council is responsible for in the Town of Tillsonburg. Because I did learn a lot in my first four years on council I thought, it would be good to use what I learned and I could perhaps better serve the residents of the town with knowing more this time, than I did last."
Esseltine says one of the reasons she first decided to run in 2014 was because Town Council only had one female member and it's encouraging to see more women on the ballot this year.
"Last term we had two female councillors and surprisingly, this election we have 12 people running for 6 council positions and they are divided evenly with 6 men and 6 women and how good is that."
Esseltine says she wants Tillsonburg to maintain their small town feel while still encouraging new development.
