Expect a hefty fine if you illegally dump your hefty garbage bags around Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg is looking to crack down on illegal dumping.
Recently by-law officers handed out a $500 fine to a 36 year old man who was caught illegally dumping garbage in Fox Alley. The man was caught pulling a shopping cart behind a bicycle and then abandoning it.
Mayor Stephen Molnar says they will not tolerate illegal dumping in Tillsonburg.
"Tillsonburg's downtown area is the heart of our community. It's always been a safe, clean, inviting and vibrant place to be and we want to ensure it
stays that way."
Executive Director of the Tillsonburg BIA Virginia Armstrong says it is unfortunate that this kind of thing still happens in Tillsonburg.
"Unfortunately, Illegal dumping in the downtown core isn't new. However, with more and more businesses investing in video surveillance equipment, it's a practice that's
become increasingly risky for the perpetrators."
Manager of By-law Enforcement Geno Vanhaelewyn is warning the public that they will be fined if they are caught illegally dumping there garbage.
"There are substantial fines for dumping and I would encourage people to be vigilant. Anyone who sees illegal dumping in progress should take pictures and/or video and report it to the Town. Even a licence plate can be helpful in identifying the individuals involved."
