Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue will be holding several activities throughout the week, including a colouring contest and first-ever blitz the town on Thursday.
TILLSONBURG - Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue are doing a number of things to celebrate Fire Prevention Week.
Public Educator with the Fire Department Sarah Barkely says things look a little different this year with the pandemic.
"We have a colouring contest going on, we have another contest where a family can submit a picture or a video of the family checking their smoke and CO alarms and they if they send it into us, they can win a fire prevention prize."
Barkely says they will be doing the first-ever blitz the town on Thursday.
"We will be visiting local businesses across the community on Thursday, promoting fire prevention week. We will be respecting social distancing and we will be in our masks and again we are not inviting any crowds, we are just speaking to those individuals who are already out in the public, so those locations are top secret at this time but if you are out on Thursday night, you will definitely see some firefighters and dispatchers out and about."
Barkely adds they really want to focus on cooking fires this year.
"This year the fire prevention theme is serve up fire safety in the kitchen and again that surrounds all fire safety in the kitchen, being alert while you are cooking, put a lid on it, setting a timer while you are cooking, all things safety in the kitchen."
Everyone is also encouraged to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and make sure to change those batteries twice a year. You can find more information about what the Tillsonburg Fire Department is doing this week on their social media accounts.
