TILLSONBURG - A Tillsonburg resident has recieved the Legion of Honour from the Consulat General de France.
95 year old Harry Morgan Sanders received highest military honour, for his time as a First Class Radio Officer in World War 2.
"I recieved confirmation in May of this year that I was going to receive the award. So I've waited until this past month to actually receive it, but beyond that I've waited 73 years for this recognition so that's what makes it truly outstanding."
Sanders was in charge of all the radio signals coming in to the boat he was on for 4 and a half years.
He would like dedicate this award to the 4,600 people who lost their lives within the first 24 hours of D-Day.
"I'm dedicating this great honour; sharing it in the memory of every service man and every service woman that I left on the beach that day."
Sanders moved to Canada after the war with a small amount of cash, a bag and the clothes on his back.
