Tips to Beat the Heat

Oxford County is under a heat warning right now and it is expected to last until Tuesday night.

Oxford County is under a heat warning right now and it is expected to last until Tuesday night.

Temperatures will reach the low 30's and it will feel much hotter with the humidex. It can be very dangerous outside when the temperatures get this hot with heat stroke, dehydration and even death a big concern. The people most susceptible to the heat are the elderly, young children and anyone with a chronic health problem.

Manager of Health Protection with Oxford Public Health Peter Haywood offers up a few tips to beat the heat.

" It is very important that people take the appropriate breaks, drink lot's of water, avoid going outside if possible, and if you do have to outside wear a hat, stay in the shade and avoid any type of intense activity, because this may lead to physical distress, or rapid breathing or weakness and headaches, the heat can also cause vomiting, sleepiness changes in behaviour and in some extreme cases heat stroke and even potentially death."
