An IDCI teacher is working with the town of Ingersoll to explore the option of revamping the mural in Heritage Square.
IINGERSOLL - The town of Ingersoll is looking into replacing the mural in Heritage Square with something a little more timeless.
The current mural was painted by IDCI students six years ago and showcases the different festivals the town used to offer. But the town stopped offering a Rib Fest, which means the mural is no longer accurate. The marine sealant that was used has also caused the entire painting to yellow throughout the years.
IDCI Art Teacher Danielle Gardner would like to see Grade 11 students paint a college of historical photos in its place.
"I'm interested as a teacher in facilitating the students' journey from Ingersoll into the bigger world but also want to reflect the pride of where they are from. This will help them with their portfolios and it would be something they could be very proud of."
The new mural would be quadruple the size of the current one. The town has to determine how they would safely hang the painting before they can green light the project.
If approved by council, Gardner says the mural could take quite a while to complete.
"It's a daunting large task that two of my classes would be involved in next year. It would take a year long to complete it or maybe even more."
Both of the painting classes are at full capacity for student registration.
