It was a pig chase in the dark early this morning in St. Mary's. Perth OPP say at 1 o'clock this morning, a livestock truck loaded with 550 "weaner pigs" crossed the centre line of James St. North, hit a guardrail, two light standards and some trees before and overturning. Then, the pigs got out. Police say a large number of them wandered into the surrounding streets. The livestock company called in some workers who spent the next several hours corralling all the pigs, and loaded them into waiting trailers. Luckily, no one was injured in the crash. The truck and trailer suffered extensive damage. Police are continuing to investigate and were expecting to reopen the road at 9 this morning.
