UPDATE: Details from Trudeau and Ford's CAMI Visit

Premier’s official YouTube channel

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford were in Ingersoll today for a press conference at CAMI.

UPDATE: The hour-long press conference at CAMI in Ingersoll has come to an end.

At 12:15 p.m. today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Doug Ford, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli and others spoke about the opening of Canada's first full-scale electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant. The CAMI plant will be GM Canada’s designated EV hub for its new all-electric commercial vehicle brand BrightDrop.

Premier Ford said his government couldn't be prouder to support GM's two-billion dollar investment.

“Today’s exciting, made-in-Ontario milestone is more proof that there is no better place to build the cars of the future from start to finish than right here in Ontario. From the critical minerals in the north to our manufacturing excellence in the south, Ontario has every advantage and will continue to build on our legacy as a global automotive leader for decades to come.”

Ford also gave a huge amount of credit to Fedeli, who was excited to see the first BrightDrop Zevo 600s rolled off the CAMI EV line.

“This is truly an exciting day for Ontario as we celebrate the grand opening of GM Canada’s transformed CAMI manufacturing plant and the first all-electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Canada. Watching the first BrightDrop vehicles roll off the assembly line, it is clear that Ontario will build the cars of the future. Our government continues to attract transformative investments by creating the right economic conditions and reducing red tape."

Prime Minister Trudeau spoke a lot about international investments in his speech. Ontario alone, has attracted $16 billion in automotive investments by global automakers and suppliers of EV batteries and battery materials. Above all, Trudeau wanted to note that this is another example of a growing middle class in Canada.

"People are seeing tangibly that this means good jobs now, and good jobs reliably into the future. That's what people want for their families, for their communities, for their country and that's what together, we're delivering."
