If you were eligible and collected the CERB last year, you won't have to repay any of it come tax time. Trudeau also announced strict new measures at the land border starting next week.
CANADA - Prime Minister Justine Trudeau made a couple of major announcements today.
If you received emergency funds last year and made up to $75,000 in taxable income, you won't have to pay interest on 2020 tax debt until next year.
This means for anyone who collected the CERB, you will not have to pay back the benefit at tax time this year if you earned under $75,000. This only applies to people were actually eligible for the CERB.
The Prime Minister also announced strict new measures at the land borders. Starting on February 15th, anyone entering Canada by vehicle will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
The test must have been taken within 72 hours of entry into the country.
