Michael Landsberg and the #SickNotWeak movement will share their message of hope with Woodstock on Thursday night.
WOODSTOCK - One of the Canadians foremost sports broadcasters is coming to Woodstock to share his message of Sick not Weak with our youth.
Michael Landsberg is hosting a free talk on Thursday night for high school students at the Woodstock Community Complex starting at 7 p.m. Landsberg has been with TSN since it's inception and is probably best known for his show Off the Record. He has been a strong advocate for mental health and often shared his own personal battle with depression and anxiety with his viewers.
Gail Evraire who started the Youth Suicide Prevention Facebook Group says Landsberg contacted her to help organize the event with #SickNotWeak. She tells Heart FM what Landsberg will be bringing some friends with him on Thursday night and they want everyone to know this even is not just for the youth.
"We are not letting people know quite yet as to who he is bringing with him but I think there will be someone for everyone. As far as who it is targeted towards, we are not just focusing on youth for this particular event, Michael is bringing a message of hope with him, hope for our community and hope for moving forward."
Ervaire thinks the message will have more impact coming from someone with a celebrity status like Michael Landsberg and says his message is all about hope.
"To know that there is hope, it is not all depressing downhill because Michael has been through it before with a major depressive disorder and he goes through his struggles and he will probably talk a little bit about that on Thursday."
They do ask you to grab a ticket for the free event and you can find out how on their web site. Heart FM has gotten an interview with Michael Landsberg about what he will be talking about on Thursday night and we will be sharing parts of that with you on Tuesday morning.
