U.S. Border Agency Says Canadians Seeking Vaccinations in U.S. May Be Denied Entry

The U.S. Border Agency says Canadians attempting to cross the border for a vaccination may be denied entry even with a doctor's referral.

A spokesperson for Customs and Border Protection says it doesn't consider a vaccine to be an essential reason for entry. 

"Travel for the sole purpose of obtaining a vaccination is not permissible under current travel restrictions. If a person is entering the U.S. for legitimate travel reasons, as allowed under current restriction guidelines, and receives a vaccine incidental to their trip, it is not part of the overall admissibility determination."

Since March 2020, the Canada - U.S. border has been closed to non-essential travel. 

Earlier this week, the Public Health Agency of Canada said Canadian travelers could cross the border for a vaccination, so long as a referral from a licensed health-care professional is obtained. 

However, Health Canada noted the decision on whether to allow entry into the States would fall on the shoulders of American border authorities.
