National 211 Day always falls on the 11th day of the second month of the year.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's February 11th, also known as National 211 Day.
United Way Oxford is using this opportunity to shine a light on the 211 social service directory once again.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says it offers information about health, housing, food, and other social and community supports in your area.
"It could be something really simple like you might have something that you want to donate to a community organization and you don't know where to go. It might be much more complex, like you might be for healthcare for perhaps an elderly parent and looking as well for additional supports you might need since its in your home as you're going through that process. You might also be looking for some mental health supports for a teenager and you don't know where to turn."
When you call 2-1-1, it will connect you with a trained professional who will help you access the services you need. You can also access the 211 social service directory online here.
It's free to use and it's also confidential. Gilson says it also keeps track of the people who don't find any help using the service.
"They share that information with all levels of government and various funders, because those are identified gaps in services and they are able to share that information to hopefully help make some change. So the fact that they do that is also wonderful!"
Housing, health, legal/public safety were the top three reasons why Oxford County residents reached out to 211 last year.
