The United Way Oxford has collected $500,000 in donations so far, but they are still a long way off from the $1.2 million goal.
The United Way of Oxford is asking for public support as they predict they will fall short of their fundraising goal.
After unveiling a hefty goal in September the organization still has work to do if they hope to reach that goal by the end of the campaign. Campaign Manager with United Way of Oxford, Shelley Lachapelle, explains where they currently sit in terms of donations. "It has been a challenging year for the United Way; essentially we are looking at a bit of a shortfall this year - approximately $75 000 is where we are sitting short. We are asking the residents of Oxford County to help fill that gap by making a financial contribution or getting involved, and just being an advocate out in the community."
While $500,000 may sound like an impressive fundraising total it falls short of the $1.2 million goal that was announced in September. Lachapelle is thankful for those that have donated so far but more still needs to be done. "We just want to say that our community is generous: people here have amazing hearts, and they really do want to help their friends, families, neighbours, and The United Way is eternally grateful for that. We officially wrap up in February, but we are certainly looking to reach that goal prior to that if we can."
Lachapelle thanks everyone who has donated but would like to see more step up. "We're hoping that individuals, once they find out exactly the work that the United Way is doing, and how their dollars are making a difference locally, will actually be motivated to be able to participate or make a donation to the United Way."
Various fundraising events can be held to help the cause, including donation jars at offices or bake sales.
