Local Jr C hockey action kicks off tonight with a pair of season home openers. The Woodstock Navy Vets welcome the Paris Mounties to the Southwood Arena for their home opener. Game time is 7:45 pm. The Vets had an impressive pre-season with a record of 2-0-1 in exhibition play after a disappointing season last year. Woodstock hope to rebound after finishing the 2011-2012 season at the bottom of the pack for the Niagara West Division with only 8 wins. The Norwich Merchants entertain the Simcoe Storm at their home opener at the Nor-Del arena tonight. The puck drops there at 8pm. The Merchants hope to continue their winning ways with another appearance in the West Division finals. Norwich lost to the New Hamburg Firebirds in the finals last year. The Merchants are happy to have their super fans Kaitlyn and Isabella Hantz, along with their family at their season and home opener for the ceremonial face off and puck drop. Heart FM and friends will take on the Norwich Merchants Sunday September 23rd at the Nor-Del arena for a charity hockey game in support of Kaitlyn and her family. Tickets are $5 each or a family four-pack for $15. Game time is 1:30 pm.
