Two hours a week could make all the difference for a family coping with dementia.
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford is looking for people to share a little of their time through their Volunteer Companion Program.
Executive Director Shelley Green helped to develop this program that has volunteers spend two hours a week visiting with someone living with dementia.
"It also allows their family member to be out maybe doing grocery shopping for example - the essentials of life - or they might be able to take the time to meet a friend for coffee, go for an appointment, all those things, but also to have a break."
Green says anyone can take part in this - no prior experience is necessary.
"Some people are a bit apprehensive to get involved because they think, 'Well I don't have any dementia experience.' Dementia experience and knowledge is not required - we do a 12 hour training program and then we also do monthly ongoing support for our volunteers."
Anyone interested in taking part in this program can contact the Alzheimer Society of Oxford at 519-421-2466
