Four Oxford County students were honoured at a virtual ceremony Wednesday night, including the 2021 Friends of the Art Gallery Legacy Scholarship winner Cassandra Birtch.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery Hosted a virtual ceremony to recognize four local aspiring artists on Wednesday night.
The ceremony announced the winner of the 2021 Friends of the Art Gallery Legacy Scholarship and the award winners for the inaugural New Impressions: High School Juried Exhibition.
Cassandra Birtch, who is a graduating student from WCI won the $1,000 scholarship. The money will go towards her post-secondary education at Humber College in the Bachelor of Engineering — The Built Environment program.
Cassandra says it is an honour to receive this scholarship.
“Thank you to the Woodstock Art Gallery and the scholarship jury. I am honoured to be supported in my future creative endeavours.”
Cassandra plans to apply her knowledge of composition, environment, moods and movement in her future career in engineering and architecture.
The Art Gallery also announced the award winners for New Impressions: High School Juried Exhibition.
The virtual exhibition featured artwork by 24 local high school students. It was juried by Mercedes Schuster and Marla Botterill.
Best in Show was awarded to the painting Blurred Paint Strokes by Savrup. The selections for Juror’s Choice were awarded to the painting Imposter Syndrome by Chloe and the photograph Greenhouse, March 1 by Henny.
Head of Education Stephanie Porter wanted to thank everyone who took part in this process.
“On behalf of the Woodstock Art Gallery, I want to congratulate the award winners and all of the students who participated in the inaugural high school juried exhibition."
