The Walk for Alzheimer's events in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll were a huge success this weekend.
Over 37,000 was raised this weekend and Executive with the Alzheimer Society of Oxford County Shelly Green tells Heart FM they really noticed a spike at the Tillsonburg event.
"We raised $25,384 in Tillsonburg, which is up quite substantially over last year, we are already over about $4,000 more than they raised last year and we know that more funds will come up over the next couple of weeks, so we know we are substantially up from last year in Tillsonburg and in Ingersoll we so far brought in $12,122.
Since the Walks started in Oxford County 22 years ago they have raised over $1.5 million dollars with the fundraiser's. Green tells Heart FM all of the money raised locally stays local.
"So it stays here locally in Oxford County and it helps to provide our programs and services to our clients, we are funded 61% by our local Health Integration Network but we still need to fundraise through donations, events and different fundraising by 39% of our budget, which is a substantial amount."
She adds they still have one more walk happening in Woodstock this Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Oxford Auditorium. For more Walk information call Sheena Poole, Events Coordinator at 519-421-2466 ext. 224 or 1-877-594-2368 and visit their website at www.alzheimer.ca/oxford
