Old Man Winter is on the horizon and Waste Management is giving good tips to remove waste.
When the snow and ice start to settle in it's important residents think twice before putting out their garbage and recycling.
Waste Management Supervisor Pam Antonio says homeowners need to make sure the path to their bins is clear. "Right now we don't have any snow. But should the snow and the cold weather really hit us the one thing we do ask residents to keep in mind is the best place to set their material out is at the end your their driveway and to make sure the area is free of ice and snow as much as possible."
Antonio also says the during those cold mornings it can be difficult to get things out of the recycling bin. "Definitely during the winter seasons you'll have material that will actually freeze in your box. And with the cold weather the drivers will do their best to empty the blue boxes but if the material is frozen inside they are instructed to not be too aggressive with the boxes otherwise the bins could crack."
So far Antonio says people in the county have really taken to the new system, and they're hoping that residents will be just as cooperative in the winter. "We've been really pleased. We've just completed some audits. We've just been so happy with our participation level so the residents have really embraced it. We did some material audits to see what level of contamination we had, and our contamination was really low which we were really surprised about."
