A student walkout will be taking place at Western University today in response to the recent sexual assault allegations.
LONDON - Western University students will be walking out of class today in response to numerous sexual assault allegations at a first-year student residence.
The protest is expected to begin at 12:00 p.m. and students will be speaking out about how the London university has handled the situation. The demonstrators will be meeting at UC Hill and everyone is being asked to wear teal and to wear a mask.
The allegations first surfaced over social media, suggesting over 30 women had been drugged and sexually assaulted at Medway-Sydenham Hall over the weekend. The London Police Service is investigating the matter and it's also looking into four alleged sexual assaults from the week before.
Western just unveiled a new student safety plan yesterday and it includes mandatory in-person sexual violence training for all students living in residence. The first classes will begin on Monday.
