Consumer fireworks are banned in Woodstock, meaning there will be fines for anyone seen lighting them this holiday weekend.
WOODSTOCK - Fireworks will light up the night sky in Southside Park this Canada Day.
Lisa Woods, the Public Information Coordinator for the Woodstock Fire Department, says the City puts on an amazing show each year.
"This July long weekend, as always Toyota and the City of Woodstock put on a fantastic display. We encourage everybody to go down there because there's lots of things going on and you can celebrate with their fireworks."
This is the only opportunity to watch fireworks in Woodstock without getting in trouble with the law. Woods says consumer fireworks have been banned in the City for two years now.
"Both bylaw and Woodstock Fire have been monitoring it. For the most part people have been pretty respectful, but there have been some out there that we have to remind that this is a chargeable offence and they should not be lighting off fireworks."
Firefighters will be on site to inspect the fireworks in Southside Park and make sure nothing goes wrong. Woods says they will also have some out and about in the community enforcing the no consumer fireworks bylaw, which could result in a $400 fine.
