WOODSTOCK - Why Not Us in Woodstock is hosting a free basketball program this Saturday at Park Row.
It is a free event hosted by Why Not Us basketball and the City of Woodstock. The event was originally scheduled for last Saturday, however it was postponed because of the rain. Kurke White AKA the Street Mayor explains what they will do be doing on Saturday.
"We run this event to do special skills and training for the kids and also to let them know about the Street Mayor Classic, 3 on 3 tournament coming up on June 7th and 8th this year."
The event is geared for youth basketball players from 8-13 in the morning and over 13 in the afternoon. White says Why Not Us has been doing a lot of positive things in the community since 2013.
"We actually are getting into a doing a financial literacy program with First Ontario, so we are offering that to a lot of the kids here in Woodstock for free, to get them prepared for their future in life. We have done a lot of things, our biggest thing is the Street Mayor's Classic, a 3 on 3 youth tournament we do for the High Schools. This is our 7th year, so this is a big one, this year we decided to get the kids more involved, design the jerseys and design the shirts."
White says they still need more players to sign up for the 3 on 3 classic this year and are especially looking for more girls to sign up.
