WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has agreed to purchase the former Zabian's Mens Wear Property next to Town Hall.
The clothing store was destroyed by a massive fire in downtown Woodstock in March. City Council agreed to purchase the property for just over $775,000. Mayor Trevor Birtch says council also offered their condolences to Zabian Zabian.
"Unfortunately through the process of us working with the Zabians, this week, Zabian Zabian did pass away, so he didn't get to hear the good news from council, Council of course did extend condolences to the entire Zabian family."
Birtch explains what the City plans to do with the property.
"We will make sure that any of the unsightliness is taken care of right away and it will serve for future improvements to the downtown and possible expansion when required at City Hall."
Zabians Mens Wear has already opened a new location downtown.
