Woodstock residents can now take advantage of the new community garden in Market Square.
WOODSTOCK - Seeds are in the ground, and the downtown Woodstock community garden is officially underway.
Manager of the Downtown Woodstock BIA Kelly Morrison says they want everyone to join in and take ownership of this community project.
"The Market Garden was a project that we started - I guess this is the third year - and it was kind of the brain child of Sue Hillborn and some of the other vendors who have been with us since day one, and they thought it would be great to utilize one of the spaces along the walkway there for the community garden."
Although the garden does not need to be watered, Morrison says people walking by are encouraged to help maintain the space.
"Don Hillborn will bring his hoe some weeks and he will clean it out if it gets a little weedy beyond being able to pull. So we all look after it - it's a community project and we just encourage everyone to enjoy it and help themselves to Mother Nature's fruits."
Morrison also says people are welcome to dig in once the plants are mature.
"If people want to pick a tomato or a berry or whatever comes up - I think this year they put in some more herbs. So it's just a way to educate and get people thinking local and healthy."
Some of the things Woodstonians can look forward to are tomatoes, eggplant, herbs, and whatever else pops up in the Museum/Market Square space.
