As phase two of the East Area Recreation Complex begins, the City is looking forward to opening up the new area next year.
WOODSTOCK - Phase 1 of the Woodstock East Area Recreation Complex is almost complete.
Brian Connors, Director of Parks and Recreation says the phase should be done within days.
Connors talks about what this phase entails.
"Basically getting all the underground items, making sure the area is relatively flat, we have enough slope to it for run off of drainage, and also some of the parking and walkways."
They will beginning phase 2 soon, which will cost $3.9 million.
Connors talks about what will be happening in phase 2.
"Some of the structures on top which would include construction of three baseball diamonds, a masonry block, a concession building and washrooms, additional roadwork, pathways, electrical services to the ball fields including, light and irrigation."
Connors says they have set a timeframe of when they want to launch the baseball fields.
"Our goal is next spring. We would like to get the grass in and have it knit into the soil before we have anyone play on it. We are hoping this time next year we will be having ball out there."
They are waiting for sponsorship to officially name the complex.
This project is put into phases to make it financially feasible for the city.
