Woodstock Fair Celebrates 180 Years

Lot's of local dignitaries attended the opening ceremonies for the Woodstock Fair.

WOODSTOCK - Lot's of local dignitaries attended the opening ceremonies for the Woodstock Fair.

Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch, Warden David Mayberry, MPP Ernie Hardeman and MP Dave MacKenzie all provided kind words during the ceremony, which commemorated the 180th year of the fair.

Mayor Birtch says the fair has always been close to his heart.

"It's been a memory for me from a young age and I hope to instil that same value in generations to come so get out and celebrate the Woodstock Fall Fair."

Last night's festivities also included a pie auction and the black and white show, which is one of the biggest Holstein shows in Ontario.

Extreme Motorcyclist Jordan Zokes is expected to entertain the crowd at the grand stands Friday night. Saturday will feature a mini tractor pull and a special fireworks show and Sunday will have a demo derby. The fair will also feature a midway, bouncy castles, rock climbing and of course Old McDonalds Barn.

Maria Reis is the Manager of the Woodstock Fairgrounds. She says the fair has been in three locations since its inception.

"This location has been here since the early 1900's but it started originally in downtown Woodstock, then Victoria Park and then finally moved here."
