The Woodstock Fire Department battled a blaze on Saturday. Crews responded to a Hunter Street home just after 8:30 p.m. and began efforts to put out the fire.
WOODSTOCK - A house fire in Woodstock had crews battling over the weekend.
The Woodstock Fire Department responded to a residence on Hunter Street and Fire Prevention Officer, Lukasz Kasprzyk says it was a quick response time.
"The call for this fire originated at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th. The first truck on scene arrived at approximately three minutes after 8:30, and firefighters were able to rapidly progress into the structure and perform suppression activities."
It was reported that as crews were arriving the homeowner and neighbour were attempting to battle the fire with a garden house.
Kasprzyk mentions there was significant damage to the home.
"So the estimate for the damages from this fire are at approximately $300,000. The cause and origin of this fire is still under investigation."
Firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly to limit the spread and damage to adjacent dwelling and neighbouring houses. About 17 firefighters battled the blaze, and remained on the scene all night monitoring hot spots.
Kasprzyk urges residents to plan and practice their fire home escape plan and test their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and ensure they are working.
