With the Family Day long weekend coming up, the Woodstock Fire Department says it's the perfect opportunity for families to practice their Fire Escape Plan.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department is encouraging families to practice your Fire Escape Plan this long weekend.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says every family should know what to do in the case of a fire and it's a good idea to have a mock fire drill at home.
"Kids do it 3 times a semester at school, but we are not always convinced they do it at home and home fires are more likely to happen then fires at schools."
It's a good idea to sit down and map out a plan with your family. Discuss the available exits in every room in the house and practice using them.
Woods says it's also important to have a meeting place.
"First and foremost, you want to make sure you have a meeting place outside, so when the alarm goes off, everyone knows where to meet their family and no they are outside, it also makes it less likely to go back inside to look for someone, which is never a good thing."
