Waterland is just one of five children to be given the role of Junior Mayor.
WOODSTOCK - One lucky girl was declared Junior Mayor of Woodstock.
Julie-Ann Marie Waterland was picked by Mayor Trevor Birtch after he learned she handed out water to construction workers in a random act of kindness.
Mayor Birtch says these opportunities give kids a chance to learn more about where they live.
"There's a lot of aspects of municipal government that we want to make sure young people understand, that they could be working in their own community here in the future and they can even become the next leaders of our community."
Waterland says she had an exciting day. She visited different places around the Friendly City, including the Fire Hall and South Gate Centre.
"I've also been to the Fire Hall and I got to sit in the fire truck. We had lunch at the South Gate Centre with soup, sandwiches and buns."
Birtch says other children, like Waterland, have been picked for their contributions in the community. She is just the fifth person to be given the role.
